From the Desk of Our Executive Director
“We exist to help pastors and church leaders build a culture of generosity founded upon biblical stewardship.” Mark Brooks, The Stewardship Coach, made that comment when I introduced him to the attendees of the Monday night session of our recent Convention. That sums up our intent well.
Here is a preview of this week’s Stewardship Journal.
Our lead post continues the focus on the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. Long-time MBC pastor, Richie Rhea, writes a post entitled They’ve Got to Know Before They Will Love or Give. Richie’s post reminds us of the sacrifices of two Southern Baptist missionary giants whose example will motivate people to give.
If you have ever wondered how to get people to give to support your budget, then Mark Brooks’ column is for you. The column is entitled The Message Behind Your Budget. Mark will show you how to make giving about reaching people rather than reaching some number on a spreadsheet.
How to Make Your Appeal About People is this week’s Bonus Section. Using #GivingTuesday, November 29th, Mark shows you sample appeals that demonstrate how to make your appeal about people. Every Journal gives you practical advice to better engage your folks with your church’s mission.
Speaking of engaging people to give, this week’s Mission and Ministry moment, entitled A Promise You Can Count On, uses the election to point out promises we can count on from God’s Word. This “talk” is a great teaching opportunity to share the value of a life lived as a good steward. Using two minutes or less before each offering to share biblical principles is one of the best ways to disciple your people and create a culture of generosity.
We do indeed exist to help pastors and church leaders build a culture of generosity founded upon biblical stewardship!
