Welcome to another Stewardship Journal!
One recent study found only 13% of evangelicals give anything close to a tithe.1. The same study discovered that the medium gift of an evangelical was $350 yearly. Giving experts are predicting a decline in giving as our major donor base is aging and younger generations have yet to fill the void. The future of your church and our denomination is greatly threatened by this coming decline. One thing you as a pastor can do is regularly preach on stewardship. For this month we will be focusing on preaching on stewardship. We lead off with this edition of the Journal by once again asking MBC pastors their thoughts. This week’s lead post is entitled Missouri Baptist Pastors Speak Up About Preaching on Stewardship.
Here is a preview of what you can expect in the following pages.
This week, Mark Brooks, The Stewardship Coach, gives an overview of how a church should be thinking and planning when it comes to building an effective stewardship platform. His post is entitled The Key Lanes of Stewardship Development.
This week’s Bonus Section is entitled How to Develop a Pastoral Lane. Mark gives practical advice on how a Senior Pastor can best use his time to develop the church’s stewardship platform.
The Super Bowl is Sunday and even though there is no Missouri team playing, except for the former Saint Louis Rams, the game will be on Americans’ minds. This week’s Mission and Ministry talk, Every Day is a Super Bowl Sunday Here, compares the impact of the game compared to the eternal impact your donors make by giving through your church.
When only 13% of evangelicals currently give anything close to a tithe, it’s clear we have our work cut out for us. Our prayer is that tools like the Stewardship Journal will help our churches grow up the next generation of generous committed Missouri Baptists. Our mission is too important not to be fully funded.
