Welcome to another Stewardship Journal!

Another Southern Baptist Convention has come and gone. I have been blessed to serve these many years as the Recording Secretary of the Convention. Serving for this last time was one of mixed emotions for me. I have loved my time serving and it has given me an inside view of all that Southern Baptists accomplish. The press often focuses only on where we disagree, missing the impact we make by cooperating in partnership with one another. Last year, veteran MBC pastor, Richie Rhea, wrote an article for the Stewardship Journal on this entitled How Partnerships Happen. We felt compelled to repost it in this edition of the Journal. We believe it is, again, a timely word for all Missouri Baptists.

Mark Brooks, The Stewardship Coach, continues his series on raising over and above dollars. Mark’s post this week is entitled How to Avoid Mistakes in Church Loans. You will find practical advice on what not to do as well as what to do when it comes to acquiring and re-financing loans.

This week’s Bonus Section is entitled Advice from a Church Lending Expert. It contains an interview with lending expert and Baptist layman Dennis Moses. If your church has a loan, or is thinking about acquiring a loan, this is a great read for you.

Do you have your offerings planned out this summer? We have found that taking a few minutes before the offering greatly improves giving. Each week, we provide you with a “talk” to help you set the stage for giving. The talk in this week’s Mission and Ministry offering section is entitled How Your Gift Today Shapes Eternity.

Let me conclude by expressing my thanks for your support in continuing the mission and ministries of the Missouri Baptist Convention. I firmly believe that by working together, we will see great things happen for the Kingdom. Let’s keep our Great Commission focus first here in Missouri and then around the world until Jesus returns.
