From the Desk of Our Executive Director

Welcome to another edition of the Stewardship Journal.

It Must Be Summer; VBS is Approaching is our lead post. Many of you reading this are only weeks away from the launch of your VBS. I believe you will enjoy this post which contains a brief interview with Pastor Greg Fine of First Higginsville on how they approach Vacation Bible School. VBS has been and will continue to be one of the SBC’s greatest evangelistic opportunities. It’s time to get ready for VBS!

Are you up against needing repairs, upgrades, or even new facilities? Across the SBC, we have churches built in the last century that, unless updated, will become a liability. Sooner or later, a church will need to raise capital dollars over and above budget giving. Mark Brooks, The Stewardship Coach, writes in his column about this in a post entitled The Future of Raising Capital in the American Church. Mark has spent nearly 25 years in the stewardship ministry, from projects running from $100 million to $100K. He gives us his advice on what raising capital will look like in the future.

This week’s Bonus Section continues on with this theme asking, “What’s your 50%, and What is Your Split?” In this post, Mark shows how the few always give the majority and then asks how many of your key donors are above 50 years of age. The aging of our donor base is one of the major ticking time bombs for the SBC that must be addressed.

Do you have a VBS story? We would love to hear it. Email Rob Phillips at rphillips@mobaptist.org. Let’s pray we have our greatest Vacation Bible School results ever!
